A Kiss To Build A Dream On

The first line of that love song made famous by Louis Armstrong and others goes:

“Give me a kiss to build a dream on and my imagination will thrive upon that kiss…”

I have for quite a long time believed that all true love songs have a much deeper meaning than the love between a couple as grand as that is. That being said what could possibly be the deeper meaning of a kiss to build a dream on that so inspires the imagination to thrive upon that kiss? No doubt there is great power in a really great kiss to inspire the imagination to build some pretty big dreams.

Before I deal with dreams let me write a few words about kisses. If you are fortunate you have known some great kisses in your life. A mother’ kiss, a father’s kiss, familial kisses. There is a line in the movie Back To The Future. Marty McFly has time travelled back to the 1950’s and kisses a teenaged version of his mom who has a crush on him for saving her life. After the kiss she says, “It was like kissing my brother.” A kiss with no spark, no pizzazz is still a kiss but not the kind to build a dream on. There are other famous kisses like those of military people going to or coming home from war, first kisses, and last kisses, fine kisses but few inspirational enough to build a dream on, a lasting dream. Judas kissed Jesus to betray him. Kisses have often been employed to attempt to cover some betrayal. Those kisses destroy dreams not build them.

I believe that this life is a dream like the little round we learned as children said, “Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.” I also believe that we build our dreams by the thoughts we think, the words we say, and our actions that grow out of our thoughts and words.

Mondays through Fridays I get an emailed Note From The Universe. Usually it is just a line or two but always very pointed and inspirational. Today’s note was a little longer but I would like to share it with you. It read:

“David, (the Universe always calls me by name) the root of every “evil” is looking to time and space for meaning  solutions, or identity; for friends, love, laughter; for wealth, health, and harmony.

The source of all material things is spirit, which is molded by your thoughts and then, without judgement, impressed upon matter before you eyes. Trying to get what you want by looking to time and space is like trying to change your reflection in the mirror without changing yourself.

Instead, look within. Create images with your thoughts of your desired end results.

David, when you want to spark change, dwell in the world you dream of, not in the world you dreamt of.”

When Jesus started his public ministry, he was baptized by John, the Baptist, in the Jordan. After he came up out of the water a dove descended from heaven and a voice was heard saying, ‘This is my beloved son hear you him.” A beautiful country song that I heard as a boy said, “On the wings of a snow white dove, God sent his pure sweet love, a sign from above, on the wings of a dove.” That dove was like a kiss from heaven, a kiss to build a dream on. Have you received your kiss? Well, pucker up, Buttercup, your dream awaits.

David White
