Crystal Blue Persuasion
I found a beautiful drinking glass in Mineral Point, Wisconsin at famous Crazy Franks Flea Market. I picture it with the blog today as inspiration for my remarks. There was a song in my youth called Crystal Blue Persuasion. It was an upbeat positive song that might have had hidden meanings to some like Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and LSD but neither song had any such meanings to me. As I have written before I do not believe in magic pills or elixirs. I do however believe in crystal blue persuasion, that it is possible to to be clearly and thoroughly persuaded, convinced, sure of some things.
A song I learned in church as a boy says, “I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.” That is a pretty heavy statement that it is possible to be so persuaded. If I could persuade you of anything it would be as the song “I’m Just An Old Chunk Of Coal” sung by John Anderson says that it is possible for everyone of us, to grow and glow till we are blue clear perfect, and furthermore that in fact we already are in the eyes of the One who sees us best. What a difference that undeniable surety could make in our lives if we just held on to it half as tight as we hold on to the silly and stupid ideas that ego propigates like:
I can’t.
I’m not smart enough.
…not young enough.
…not old enough.
…not brave enough.
…not pretty or handsome enough.
…not rich or popular enough.
Horse feathers, that so called logic is so full of nots it is no wonder we feel all tied up and powerless. The truth is you can do all things through the One that loves you because that One can do anything but fail. Who are you going to believe that puny little lying ego or the One who made you and knows you outside in and downside up? I hope you will be persuaded by Crystal Blue Persuasion:
“Look over yonder
What do you see
A new day is coming
Most definitely.
Don’t you give up now?
People are changing.
There’ll be peace and good
Brotherhood
Crystal blue persuasion.
Uh huh, crystal blue persuasion.”
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White

I love that glass.. My Mee-Maw (who was one of the best people I’ve ever had the honor of knowing and being loved by!) had these in amber and I want them so badly! I think Momma has them and I hope to have them one day too.
I love catching up on your blog…
