Listen To Your Heart
I thought listening to one’s own heart might be a good topic for this Valentine’s Day week end. I think many of you might agree with me that it might make for easier listening than tuning into Fox News or MSNBC and their continuous Breaking Bad News of what the “otherside” is up to now. Good grief, as Charlie Brown would say. We act so much like children and not the easy to get along with ones like Charlie Brown. Man it just dawned on me that Charlie has been in love with that little red haired girl for almost as long as as I have been alive. What a guy.
There is a love song playing in every human heart, no exceptions. It is our false belief in exceptions that has created a world of us versus them, good guys and bad guys, a world where peace has as much chance as a snowball in hell. Man invented hell to have a place to send his enemies to, to burn the trash forever. You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch. But even Mr. Grinch learns to listen to his heart before the story is over. I do not believe in hell as a concept or a literal destination. Oh, I think we have tried to make this world a living hell with our envy, jealousy, fear, hatred, condemnation, and revenge. All of those things are just as much illusion as is hell. Love is all that is real and when we listen to our heart we know that is so.
Amidst the noise of a world in disarray, where every where you look it seems an armed camp, and people playing on our fears. What is fear but a lack of love? Answer what is a lack of love but a misunderstanding of who we really are and who our neighbor really is? We just don’t get it. We just are not listening to the music from our own heart. I watched the Super Bowl and when they played, America The Beautiful, I thought that should be our national Anthem instead of a song about bombs bursting in air. You know it almost was chosen to be but the hawks won that vote and the doves lost. The doves will win in the end for love will always trump war. I am not going to bash President Trump but hope that he, that we, will not listen to the saber rattlers, the war monger, but to our own hearts, our sweetest and best heart.
There is a pretender that would sit on the throne that is your heart and wage war against you and your brothers. But he is not real either no more than his kingdom of lies. Ego cannot win and he knows it and that is why he is so angry. There is but one kingdom, the kingdom of peace and love. That is the message our heart reminds us of with every beat. Oh, be still and listen to your heart and not the drums of war.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
