It is not a hard question but probably the biggest one we have to answer. The line from the Lion King song Circle of Life comes to mind, “There is far too much to take in here, more to do than can ever be done.” There is so much to choose from, so many things to see and do. What do you want?
We are like kids in the candy store with too many choices. Often we are paralyzed not knowing what to pick from the buffet of life and so we just don’t. Because we think we can’t have it all, or must settle on one choice we pick nothing. But you can have it all. It is all yours and you can experience all of it if it takes the rest of your life or several lifetimes.
We are so afraid of making the wrong choice we miss out on the parade. We are afraid to chose because we think we have made “bad” choices in the past. Not so, for the end result of all choices is one of two things we either “win some” or “learn some.” You are here to experience life to the fullest. We like the Blues Brothers are on a mission from God. And that mission Jim should you decide to accept it is to have a ball, to have it all, to live an abundant happy life full of adventure, fun, friends…whatever you want.
One of my Dad’s favorite TV shows when I was a boy was I Lead Three Lives. It was a spy thriller where this guy was a double agent and had lots of adventures. If you have lived more that a few years, as I have, you have worn lots of shoes to quote Forest Gump. That was a wonderful movie and I encourage everyone who loved the movie to read the book and see the other shoes that Forest wore. Spoiler alert – one pair were astronaut boots.
I have lead way more than three lives this go round. I even tried to be a soldier once. That is to be the title of a future blog. I have to say looking back on my life thus far that I have been and done everything I ever wanted to do and be. Just as soon as one dream is realized there is a new one on the horizon. I have wanted to be a writer since I was a lad and I realize I have been that all along since I first scrawled DOG and CAT on a piece of construction paper with one of those fat crayons they gave us way back when. Oh, hopefully my vocabulary and material has gotten a little bigger and more interesting and my crayon a little thinner. But, nevertheless, I know the secret of how to get to Carnegie Hall or win that coveted writing award or book contract. It is Practice, Practice, Practice. Anything you do for 10,000 hours you will become an expert at. Just try it and see.
What do you want to do or be? You can be or do anything you want. What’s stopping you? Only you. Just decide what you want and focus the incredible power that is in you on that. Talk about moving mountains – easy peazy.

Thanks David. I plan to have my daughter read this particular blog. She has had the desire to become a writer for many years (and this mother might say, is very good). Being diagnosed bi-polar with depression several years ago, she seems to lack long term concentration. She has started several books and many short stories, but for what ever reason, can’t stick with one, long enough to finish it. She thinks out side the box and has a flair with words that draws you in. I will continue encouraging her to dream BIG and follow that dream. Thank you for your ever so thoughtful words and fun expressions. Your OLD school mate and friend, Sandy Norris Turner
