Who do you think you are?

Blog 401 – 09.11.2016

Most if not all of us have heard that question thrown at us a various times throughout our lives. Usually in a kind of insulting way like they knew exactly who we are and that was someone not quite as important, smart, or attractive as we think we are. People are always trying to define us, parents, teachers, friends and especially those we have offended or disappointed in some way. But only your higher self knows who you truly are.

There is a proverb that reads, “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.” Ladies please overlook the sexist tone. Man as used means mankind. I think old school and consider everyone my brother. Now some of my brothers are prettier and have much more eye catching figures at least to a strait guy like myself but we are one. We are who we think we are though there may be a fuller identity available to each of us. We get to choose the part we act out in this passion play called life.

Jesus once asked his close followers, “Who do men say that I am?” They answered, “Some say Elias, some say Elijah, some say one of the prophets.” Jesus followed up his first question with another, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter jumped up and said, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Do you think Peter was bucking for a promotion, maybe head disciple, or head of the church? Probably not. But he got that one right.

Probably the harshest form of the identity question goes like this, “Who do yo think you are, God?” Well, I am with Peter on this one and I am not trying to butter you up. If you ask me, “Who do you think I am?” I’d have to say that you are the annointed (that is what the word Christ means) child of the living God. Or the short answer, You Are God. Wait a moment before you burn me at the stake for heresy. Here are a few texts to support my conclusion as to your true identity.

• God is all in all.

Want the chapter and verse look it up or just trust me it’s in the Book

• The LORD God is One.

Jews, Christians, and Islamics take that to mean there is only one God and that is true but in a greater sense all that is is God. The Psalmist David wrote “If I make my bed in Sheol (Hell) Thou art there.” He ‘s Everywhere for He is Everything.

• Moses asked the LORD who shall I say unto Pharaoh that is
sending me and the LORD said tell him I Am.

That is the name God revealed to Moses, “I am.” Say it with me, “I AM GOD.” The best clue of all hidden in plain sight. Even Inspector Clouseau from the movie Pink Panther could follow this clue.

Still doubt my detective abilities two more verses to prove I have discovered your not so secret identity.

• Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus who being
found in the form of God thought it not robbery or something to
attained but humbled himself and became a servant.”

And in another place:

As he was so are we in this present world.

Shakespeare, once wrote:

All the world is a stage and we but players.

Oh, but Bill, we and you are so much more, we are the author, the producer, the director. We are even the stage and scenery. For we are God. Try that hat on for size but don’t get a big head or do. It’s all up to you.

I received a quote in an email as I was writing this and I can think of no more appropriate way to end this piece:

Marianne Williamson’s words chosen by Nelson Mandela for his speech become. . . . Our Inaugural Speech! I invite you to own them in first person for the fullest experience.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Keep on shining.”
Your friend and fellow traveler.
