One of my favorite songs since I was a boy has been Young At Heart made famous by Frank Sinatra. It is the only non Country Western song I ever remember hearing my daddy sing. I can still hear him singing it when I was a lad of about five years old:
“Fairy tales can come true
It can happen to you
If you’re young at heart.
And if you should survive
To a hundred and five
Think of all you’ll derive
Out of being alive.
Here is the best part
You had a head start
If you are among
The very young at heart.”
Neither Frank Sinatra nor my daddy made it to one hundred and five years old but I plan to because according to the song I have a head start because I am among the very young at heart. Many of my religious friends have a problem with some of my somewhat skewed views because they go counter to some of their “magical thinking.” But then some of my atheist friends also have problems with some of my unscientific views and consider them magical thinking. Let me quote the ole rock group Loving Spoonful and say I do believe in magic and I do believe in love:
“Do you believe in magic
In a young girl’s heart
How the magic can free her
Whenever it starts.
And its magic.”
Wishful thinking is often used as a derogatory term but I’d like to use it more positively. I believe our thoughts and words create our world. Wishes do come true but too often we get what we wish but it isn’t what we really want. People who spend a lot of time thinking and talking about “what they don’t want” find those thoughts and words to be self fulfilling prophecies.
I know the Universe may have a better plan for me than a one hundred and five year adventure on planet earth and I am open to that but I also believe my own thinking and words inform the Universe of my intentions and that these “heart felt dreams and desires are taken into account as our Loving and Infinite Source provides everything we could ever want or need. “Fairy tales can come true. They can happen to you.”
Try a little scienitific/magic thinking experiment/trick with me. Just hang around and check in with me from time to time to see if I’m still around in the year 2056. That year will begin thirty nine days after my one hundred and fifth birthday. Sixty five and counting, counting on forty more. It is good to have a goal, something to look forward to and after that another adventure in Time and Space or beyond.
