(Excerpt from the book The Little Girl Who Sang Her Song To Anyone Who Came Along)

Episode 29
My Boyfriend Drives A Spaceship

The last six months of Emily’s adventure in Time and Space were the most productive for her original music. I like to think she found her creative inner Muse inspired by her sax man Toby. There is nothing like love to open us up to the possibilities.

I said in the preface of this book that my main intention in writing it was to introduce a larger audience to Emily and her music. I believe we are all connected in that great Universe that is God, is Love, is One, is Music, is All in All. Last night I watched an episode of one of my favorite cable sitcoms and the beautiful young lady and star of the series was with a musician in his apartment, girls beware of the wiles of musicians. He asked her if she enjoyed his band’s last set. She said she did not care much for jazz. He asked what kind of music she listened to and she said she did not listen to music. He said he would just die without music in his life. She said, well play me something to die for and he reluctantly picked up a guitar then played and sang a ballad that touched her so much she took his guitar, sat in his lap and said, “Oh, my God.” Then she kissed him passionately. She recognized who he truly was.
Mandy Moore’s song Cry is such a song of recognition:
I’ll always remember
It was late afternoon
It lasted forever
And ended so soon
You were all by yourself
Staring up at a dark grey sky
The moment I saw you cry.
The crack in his armor belied his disguise and revealed the deity inside. These OMG (Oh My God) moments are like the moment in the book and movie Forest Gump when legless lieutenant Dan sitting high in the rigging of their shrimp boat was railing at God, “You can’t sink this ship, God.” And Forest says, “And about that time God showed up.” God is always there. He/She is every where but sometimes we see God more clearly. The young girl in the sitcom saw as the young man sang that she was in the presence of God. OMG. My brother, his friends, and I got such a glimpse the night Emily sang for us and it is my hope you will experience a glimpse or two in these pages. But remember Evie’s words in her song Mirror, Mirror, “But till you find him in the mirror you’ve got a long way to go.”
I attach the lyrics to a couple of Emily originals with the hope you will make Emily and her music a part  of your life too. All of Emily’s original songs and covers are copyrighted by Toby Harris, the great love of her life and inspiration for these two songs.

My Boyfriend Drives A Spaceship

My boyfriend drives a spaceship
While I just drive a car
He doesn’t fly too fast
But we go pretty far
We visit all the places
We find upon the map
And if we’re feeling cozy
We’ll stop and take a nap

Chorus:
Because we love to see the stars,
passing by
Yes, we love to see stars

Sometimes we pack a picnic
To keep expenses down
Laughing with each other
As we pass through each town
Most folks don’t seem to notice,
But that suits us just fine
They couldn’t understand
How we warp space and time

Chorus

So happy to have found each
other
On this spinning ball of marble
blue
We while away each passing hour
In his comfy spaceship built for
two
And though we may not leave
Earth’s orbit,
Oh I can promise you
That every moment we’re together
The universe is ringing out, it’s
true

My boyfriend drives a spaceship
Wherever we may go
It may have a lot of miles,
But an awesome stereo
Downtown, around the corner
Or even to the park
I’d rather ride with him
Especially if it’s dark

Chorus
Chorus

True
Every time I’m near to you
My heart tells me I’m home
I don’t know what I wouldn’t do
To keep you as my own
Although I’ve wandered all my
days
In search of something new
I simply can’t deny the ways
That I was made for you-
This much is true.

Everything about you, boy
Makes me light up inside
Spilling out in songs of joy
This magic I can’t hide
And in each simple melody
Of love I sing to you
The ways that you were made for
me
Will shine right back at you-
I know it’s true

No matter what may be ahead
Or what tomorrow brings
The words that we may leave
unsaid
The weight of other things
But sharing in this precious Now
I’ll take this time with you
Just grateful that some way, some
how
You feel the same way too-
This love is true
