Here is another poem I wrote inspired by the Prodigal Son story at least in part. I heard a Preacher, Hal Lindsey, of The Late Great Planet Earth fame, saying that Mother Teresa was wrong when she said that Jesus line about “doing unto the least of these my brethren” was the whole Gospel. Hal said, Mother Teresa was miserable and not happy so that proved she was wrong and that she left out the part about Jesus dying for us which he deemed the whole Gospel. Gospel means, “Good News.” I’m sorry but it seems pretty sad news to me that somebody had to die so I could be forgiven or loved. I just don’t buy that anymore. I don’t buy animal sacrifice either. I want nothing to do with any religion that requires innocent animals or virgins to be thrown into volcanos to appease an Angry God. And isn’t that what the Jesus of the Bible is purported to be really – a virgin, a lamb, pure and holy whose blood was shed to appease an Angry God. I believe the true Gospel is what Mother Teresa saw – a Love that reaches to the “least of these my brethren” and does not require anyone to die or to be sacrificed. We live in a sick and twisted world where we honor people willing to sacrifice their lives for others when it would be so much more honorable and harder I might add to live for yourself and others. It is time the killing and foolish sacrificing of young people and innocents stop. The very idea of a “holy war” is repugnant, it stinks, and was never God’s idea but ego’s. To me, war is as stupid as believing you can beat good behavior into a child. Beating only teaches children to be beaters. Every child abuser and wife beater was taught to be that by being beaten themselves. Oh, you may be able to cause children or even grown-ups to act the way you wish in your sight by force but when they get a chance they will do as they please. Love does not force its will on others. Love woos and lets the beloved choose. Hey, that is just my opinion and I could be wrong. Have fun on your continuing adventure.

P.S. Happy Birthday, Kevin Watkins and Eva Gaye Pusley and all you February 29th birthday folk. Hey, one birthday every four years is one way to keep that number down. I like celebrating the anniversary of my 39th Birthday – a much more manageable number. Ha
The Adventure Truly Begun
By David J. White
Time is but a tool
For finding the way home,
A place we could never leave
However far we appear to roam.
Home is where the heart is
From there Love calls all children home
In the heart of man Love reigns supreme
And will forever on that throne.
For all our dreams of distant wars
And other fearful fates
Home is that warm and welcome place
Where the True Love of our lives awaits.
Our home is with the Father
We all have played the Prodigal Son
Only after the great Homecoming
Is the adventure truly begun.
