Franks Sinatra sang My Funny Valentine and some may think this poem a funny Valentine but I have chosen it because I believe we are all connected and that Love is the connection. In Greek there are three words for love, eros, phileo, and agape. Eros is erotic or sexual love. Phileo is brotherly love, hence Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love. And last but not least, agape is what we might call divine love or for the less religious or spiritually inclined unconditional love. Grant you there are many interpretations of love. But I believe love in all its incarnations is related to its Source. We are related to the Source. We are connected at the heart. Deny we may try but even the most seemingly hard-hearted loner has some tenderness and feels some connection to someone or something. Happy Valentines Day as you celebrate The Day of Love next weekend even if it is a love for your favorite team in the Super Bowl. I for one hope Mr. Manning gets a second Super Bowl Ring to end his illustrious career on a high note and to catch up a bit with his baby brother whom he loves even more than he loves the game.
WE ARE CONNECTED
We are connected
Made of the same stuff
The only thing that’s real
The only matter that matters is Love.
If I seem to talk in circles
We live in circles too
Love always doubles back on itself
There’s no escaping it me or you.
We are connected
Though deny it we try
Love when we least expect it
Will reveal all else to be a lie.
In Love we move and have our being
For there is nothing else
Have not all the great teachers taught
Love God and your neighbor as yourself.
Two laws that precede
And supercede all others,
Laws we can only pretend to break
For we are loved and we are lovers.
