Holding Hands

Blog 223 – 02-04-2016

Today’s poem was written to my son in 2001. I had just watched him play a football game with some friends. He was ten or eleven years old and I was as a father utterly delighted to watch my boy and see in him all the marvelous potential. He like each and everyone of us is truly a Magnificent Being and I believe it is Love that allows us to see that in our self and in others. I hope if he sees this it will remind him that I have always and will always love him. I also hope it will be an encouragement to anyone who sees it to look deeper, listen harder, and allow our self to know Who and Whose we truly are and to recognize our brother and sister in everyone we meet.

Holding Hands

I saw you catch the winning touchdown

And was so happy to be there

A very special moment

A Father and Son to share

I saw you barely miss another

And the disappointment in your eyes

That I cherish that moment too

May come as a surprise

Still more special than both moments

Was the sharing…who understands

How great it feels to make the winning point

Like a Father and Son holding hands

I love you win or lose

Neither moment greater love commands

More than the thrill of victory or agony of defeat

I remember walking, talking, listening, loving

And yes holding hands.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
