What’s Coming To You

That is a phrase that can be used in several ways. Two that come quickly to mind are when someone is concern that they might not be getting what they feel they are due or owed. And another when they are angry with someone and believe in karmic justice and have a revengeful hope that someone will get paid back for some perceived injustice.

In one of my all time favorite movies, Unforgiven, Clint Eastwood plays a former heavy drinker and gun man who has killed seemingly without conscience and who had for a number of years reformed and lived a respectable life as a pig farmer, loving husband, and father. William Munny, Clint’s character has come upon hard times. His wife has died, his two young children are depending upon him, and his pigs are dying. About this time a young cowboy rides up with an offer to split half with him the reward offered by a dozen or so working girls in a Wyoming town to anyone who will kill two young Cowboys responsible for the cutting and disfigured the face of one of their sisters who had the misfortune to snigger at the size of one of her client’s equipment. He cut her face badly for her unprofessional slip. The girls held his partner, who was not really involve with the cutting, equally guilty by association with the attacker. After helping to kill the second of the two young cowboys (the attacker) William Munny’s young partner is struck with remorse and says to him, “Keep all the money. I am not a cold blooded killer like you. But he did have it coming.” Munny replies, “We all have it coming.”

What comes to us is what we sow. Whatsoever a man sows that shall he harvest or reap. The Word says some shall reap the world wind. But I believe like Shakespeare that this world is a stage and each of us but players upon it acting out our dreams, some of us sad dreams, bad dreams, and others of us wonderful, beautiful dreams. The choice is ours. The thoughts we dwell on, the words we speak, and our actions all determine the shape of and measure of what comes to us in our dreams. Whatever our dreams I believe we will all wake up safe and sound in our Father’s House.

Someone said yesterday that Charlie Manson recently died in prison. Another person commented that he really did not kill anyone but directed others to do the killing. But, I, always looking for the encouraging word, said, ” Well, Charlie finally got out of prison.” Missing my point, one of the guys said, “No, he died in prison.” Some day we will each of us get our release papers. Till then this dream, this life, is what you make it. Make it a sweet one for you alone decide what is coming to you.

Those things you think and speak of
That you with emotion imbue
Those things from God’s Great Ocean
Are continually coming to you
