Written On Every Leaf

Blog 201 – 01.06.2016

I had someone suggest recently that perhaps I quote the Bible too much in my blog. I try to listen to all constructive criticism and hope thereby to improve my writing skills. I do not on purpose set out to offend anyone.

I no longer believe the Bible is God’s only revelation or even His best. Nor do I believe that Jesus is God’s only Son. We are each of us children of the Universe, my preferred name for God. He told Moses that “I Am” was to be His calling card to Pharaoh. Latter in the story Moses delivers Ten Rules and one of the first ones says “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.” I have come to believe saying, “I am…afraid, stupid, weak, ugly, etc.” is really taking God’s name in vain not using God with damn or saying Jesus Christ of Lord in a casual way.

Down South and in a lot of places where Conservative Christians are used to controlling politics they get their feelings hurt if anyone talks about removing The Ten Rules or others of their favorite religious symbols from public places. It is like they ignore the facts that “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance and “in God We Trust” to our money were not added till the last seventy or so years. Also they demonized Madaline Murray O’Hare for taking her case all the way to the Supreme Court who ruled with her that prayer in public schools had always been unconstitutional. Jewish Daniel in the Old Testament went into a fiery furnace and a den of lions rather than pray to a god he did not believe in but we forced millions of school children to pray whether they or their parents believed or not. The U.S.A. was not founded as a Christian nation for we have never had a state religion but defended freedom of or from religion. In practice sad to say we have not always lived up to that idea.

My Roman Catholic friends did not grow up worshipping the words of the Bible. Since Martin Luther, a Roman Catholic Bible Scholar, broke from Roman Catholicism, Protestants have revered and honored the Bible as God’s Holy Word. There are many other books out their that purport to be the Word of God. And there are as many interpretations as there are versions and sects that teach them.

I believe truth is a lot more simple than that. The true word is not to be found in books  or pages but etched by an unseen hand in human hearts. It is everywhere clear to eyes open to see it. It is written upon every leaf. “I love you.” signed, I Am.”
