Questions I Wish I’d Ask

Blog 42 – 6.3.15

Those of us whose parents have already passed from this plane have unanswered questions we wish we had asked. Little things mostly, details of their lives we wish we had cared enough at the time to ask. Young people are often so caught up in their own lives and so determined to make all our own mistakes that we often fail to appropriate many of the lessons our parents learned from their experiences. All that wise council they try to share too often falls on deaf ears or maybe the music we are grooving too is so loud we can’t hear or just don’t want to listen to the old tunes.

Since my parents died I have a greater appreciation for them and the times they lived through. There are many things I would like to ask them now but mainly I just wish they could share more of what they saw, what they felt, what their hopes and dreams were. I am grateful for every precious tidbit I recall from their lives and each one is like a golden nugget I cherish.

There is a scene in the wonderful movie Field of Dreams where Kevin Costner’s character talks about his dad and how seeing a younger version of him is so surprising. He remembers him after life had worn him down. We unlike the movie don’t get to literally see a younger version of our parents but in their stories we get to relive portions of their lives with them. In that way our lives are forever joined. We live their lives and they live on through ours.

What questions would you like to ask? Tell me Mom and Dad about your first kiss, your first heartbreak, the coolest person, place, or thing you ever saw or felt. If your parents are still here ask them if not whisper it to the Universe who hears and remembers all and you might be surprised if you listen closely to hear the answers are still available. In the Book it is written, “Call unto me and I will answer thee.” That the kids used to say is God’s telephone number, Jeremiah 33.3. Isn’t it cool when somebody so famous does not have an unlisted number. Give it a ring. I’m sure He’d be glad to hear from you. I would.
