Why Things Do Not Change But Stay The Same

I screen shot today’s picture quote off Facebook yesterday. I find it a profound, astute, and sadly accurate observation of this crazy word in which we find ourselves. When will we ever learn? We are so like the children of Israel in the Bible story about their miraculous delivery from slavery in Eqypt only to wander around in the desert for forty years before finally crossing the Jordan into the promise land.

The definition of insanity often attributed to Albert Einstein: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result” actually comes from a 1983 book by Rita Mae Brown, a civil rights campaigner and feminist writer who has one of her characters ‘Jane Fulton’ coin the phrase.

Whoever said it, like today’s picture quote it is a profound, astute, and sadly accurate observation.

But, I repeat myself. That my friends is the whole problem in a nut shell. If we want things to be different we need to do different things, say different things, believe different things, and make different choices.

The New Testament has the Prince of Peace uttering a most contradictory remark telling his disciples supposedly that there will always be wars and rumors of wars. Our current Crook-in-Chief forty days ago was bragging about the eight wars that he had ended and complaining about not getting the Nobel Peace Prize. Since then he let Israel’s Prime Minister who has wanted to bomb Iran for forty years and could not talk any previous President into joining him, drag him into another unnecessary war in the Middle East. The pretext of the war was that Iran was a few days away from using a nuclear weapon of mass destruction.

The crazy thing is that the United States is the only nation that has ever used such a weapon and not on a strategic military target but on two Japanese  cities with thousand of civilians. The only nation in the Middle East that currently has nuclear weapons is Israel and having miscalculated how easily they could with the help of the U.S. bomb Iran into submission they are perilously close to using a nuclear weapon themselves to stop Iran from bombing them out of existence which Iran has shown it can easily do and no one can stop them not even their big brother.

Who are the terrorists in this story? When did it become okay to bomb countries with whom you in negotiation talks. We have done that twice now and are amazed that Iran no longer wants to negotiate with us. Who are the “crazy bastards” in this story? Project much Mister President? Seems to me trusting two old trigger happy white guys to get us out of this is how we got here.

Here’s a novel idea, how about we stop electing crooked politicians, and stop spending billions on foolish wars and ti go places where we have already been and decided were not worth the ticket price. Imagine that.
