Dr. Audrey Nath

Friday afternoon someone rang our door bell and I opened the door. It was a woman about my own age out trying to talk people into voting for her candidate in a seven person race for an open seat on the House City Council that was left open because the woman who held that office recently stepped down to run for Harris County Attorney. I did not know there was a special election called for Saturday April 4th, to fill that open seat nor that there were seven candidates running to fill that position. All I knew was that this woman my age was out knocking on doors or ringing doorbells and leaving information about her candidate, Dr. Audrey Nath. 

And so I took her small handout and took a larger one out of my mail box also advertising her candidate and I promised that lady I would cast a vote for Audrey on Saturday morning. I kept my promise after first driving to three of the poling places that I have voted at in the last year only to find them closed. Then I did something my gender is not known for, I asked for directions. Mister Google knows all and in no time at all I located the polling place nearest me and cast my vote.

Yesterday, afternoon the door bell ran again. It was Dr. Audrey Nath herself and I had the pleasure of telling her that I had voted for her that morning and would be watching the election results to see if she won. We both admitted it was highly unlikely that she would get the fifty percent of the vote needed to win without a run off of the two highest vote getters. I told her that I hoped she would in the top two so I could vote again for her.

As of this writing and the unofficial voting tallies it looks like Audrey will come in third and not be included in the runoff election. I will let you know if that changes. I hope she runs again for other public office. I think she could make a difference.
