My Baby Boy
Thirty-six years ago, April 3, 1990, a dream I had carried in my heart since I was a nineteen year old soldier in South Vietnam came true. I finally got my baby boy. Jonathan David James Wallace White arrived. His mother, his grandparents, his nine year old sister Emily were thrilled, but none more than me.

This May, Jay and his lovely wife Lauren will celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary.

You can tell by my smiling face how proud I was to get to share that big day with them.
Three years ago this ago Emma Grace arrived and Jay himself became a dad.

As I began this short piece, tomorrow Jay will celebrate his thirty-sixth birthday. He may think of himself a grown man and indeed he is and I am so proud of him, yet to parody what football player and sports broadcaster Don Meridian used to say of himself honoring his parents Jeff and Hazel, Jay will always be David and Linda’s baby boy as Emma Grace will always be Jay and Lauren’s baby girl.
Have a wonderful B-Day my baby boy,
Love Mom & Dad
Your friend and fellow traveler,
