The Wolf We Feed
They say that we should never blame the victims. It is a truism that trouble comes to us all, even the beautiful people, the rich, the powerful, the celebrities that seem to live charmed lives have their share of tragedy. Some believe destiny, fate, luck or others decided what comes to us, but I believe that we choose our thoughts and that it is the thoughts we feed that become real in our lives. We can choose to think of ourselves as victims or we can choose to think ourselves as more than conquerors.
The first third of this adventure in time and space I spent trapped in a belief system that did not serve me. I am ashamed that it took me so long to realize that my own thoughts and beliefs had made me into an actor, a hypocrite, a person pretending to be happy when I was not and blaming that unhappiness on others.
The greatest lie ever told is that someone else is responsible for our sad or bad thoughts. We alone are responsible for what we think and how we act and how we react to what happens to us. One of my favorite attitude quotes is: “The same wind that causes one ship to crash upon the rocks blows another ship safely into port – the difference is the attitude or set of the sail.”
It is an attitude of gratitude that keeps us from floundering in the storms of life and guides us through to all that is good in life. Holding on to fear, resentment and blaming others always leads us to shipwreck on the rocks.
The Cherokee legend of the two wolves explains how important it is to choose our thoughts well. Which wolf are you feeding?
