Blowing in the Wind

It is an old lesson relearned the harnessing the power of the wind to serve our energy needs. Hundreds of years ago the Dutch constructed wind mills to grind mill and to pump sea water so they could reclaim land from the sea for crops, commercial, and residential use. In modern times we have build large wind farms with towering wind turbines to produce electricity to meet the ever growing demands for power to feed progress.

Oil is not a renewable resource and not only is it limited but the burning of oil products contributes to global warming. Harnessing wind, sun, and geothermal energy provides alternatives to oil. The oil lobby is a powerful one and still has great sway in our politics both here at home and internationally. The current war that Israel and the U.S. began fifteen days ago with Iraq has reminded us all how much of the world economy still revolves around oil.

The winds of war have so often blown in and throughout the Middle East due to that area being so rich in oil reserves. Iraq strategically controls the Strait of Hormuz through which passes twenty percent of the world’s oil supply. The eyes of the world are watching to see what will transpired there.

March winds usually precede the April showers and full blown spring. Sadly spring has so often throughout history been the season of wars beginning or resuming after winter cessations of combat. Escalation of hostilities is the course confrontations seem to always take till one or both sides conclude as they inevitably do that it just is not worth the cost to continue.
