Love, Me
Tangible evidence of affection left behind is the subject of today’s song, one of my favorite Collin Raye songs. Listen carefully to the lyrics. I have listened to the song many times and it still brings a tear to my eye, the tenderness and love expressed in so few words.
My dad was born in 1923 when the love note recited in the song was written. Grandpa was so smitten by girl who wrote the words that he carried them in his coat and in his heart for the rest of his life. We all want to love and to be loved like that.
The two word conclusion to the love note with or without the comma is still true – Love Me or Love, Me. Nat King Cole’s first big hit song Nature Boy concludes with that same truth: “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”
