The Secret To Longevity – Regular Maintenance
As I sit waiting on an oil change after which I plan to visit another car maintenance shop to get my tires rotated, I marvel that I already have more than one hundred and ninety-two thousand miles on my pick-up. I bought it new in 2015 fully intending to drive it till the wheels fell off. Some years ago I had the front wheel bearings replaced to prevent that from happening at least for a while.
I recall my Uncle Bill, who for some mysterious reason the whole family called Boo-key, telling family members, who were forever bringing their POS vehicles to him to fix, that people who did not have the money to properly maintain a car had no business owning one for that really could not afford one.
These bodies we inhabit are in the poetic words of the Bible, “fearfully and wonderfully made.” And yet if we expect them to last for the long-haul there is a certain amount of regular maintenance required. In addition to water, fuel, sleep, and cleaning minimizing undo stress is the best way to get the most miles out of a body.
Having passed the three quarters of a century mark I have out lived my father and both grandfathers as well as many of my contemporary male friends. As I near the one hundred thousand mile mark on my truck, I am hoping to exceed it and perhaps even double that mileage. And as for this body, I intend to also get the most out of it too.
