“No More Talk Of Darkness…”

…Forget These Wide-eyed Fears…” One of the truest and most comforting phrases in all of English Literature is the line, “Perfect love casts out fear.” Many erroneously believe that the opposite of love is hate, but love’s opposite is fear which according to wise Jedi Master Yoda always leads to the dark side. That frighteningly fearful quartet of professionals that I ever warn people to try to avoid, politicians, doctors, lawyers, and preachers, are ever attempting to manipulate us out of our power and our money with fear. One of, I think, the better politicians in a particularly dark time in our nation’s history told us, “We have nothing to fear, but fear itself.”

Fear blinds us by casting a dark shadow over everything. In that darkness it is easy to believe the lies of those who promise reform of government, cures for all our diseases, equal justice under the law, and eternal salvation. How seldom do they ever really deliver on those promises, and how often are they caught with their pants down, or with their fingers on the scale of justice, or enriching themselves at our expense, yet we continue to trust them, opening our hearts and pocketbooks to them.

The still small voice of truth always echoes the message of today’s song, “No more talk of darkness forget these wide-eyed fears. I’m here, nothing can harm you my words will warm and calm you… Love me that’s all I ask of you.”

Love casts out fear as certainly as light dispels the darkness.
