To Know You Is To Love You

The happiest people are those who have rediscovered Who and Whose they truly are. When I was a small boy one of my favorite childhood games was Hide ‘n Seek. I believe that is what these adventures in time and space really are – games of discovery that we play with our higher best self where the object of the game is to rediscover just who Who and Whose we truly are.

Imagine awakening one morning to discover that you are the joint heir to all there is. An imprisoned poet, thought to be insane, once scrawled upon his cell wall: “Could we with ink the ocean fill and were the sky of parchment made, to write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry, nor could the scroll contain the whole though stretched from sky to sky.” I believe that God is our higher best self and that that is who and whose we truly are.

We all start out forgetful and crazy seekers in this game of hide and seek, yet if we follow the well placed clues, we like the man in the insane asylum and the Prodigal Son who wasted his inheritance on riotous living and after the money was gone took a job feeding pig even stooping so low as to supplement his meager diet with the husks that he fed to his employers pigs, but finally “he came to himself,” and remembered Who and Whose he was.

The last portion of my daily mantra goes:

“Come dance with me, come sing with me, come walk with me, come talk with me, come ride with me, come fly with me, come follow me like you used to do. I can still show you Who and Whose you are.”

The last part comes from today’s song. The chorus of which says: “No night so long, no day so wrong that you can’t find your way. Follow me like you used to do. I can still show you who you are.”
