Fire and Rain and Friends
It is raining here in Houston as I write this. The temperature is 33 degree F. and expected to dip down to 31 with the rain stopping when it does. The northern portions of the Houston metropolitan area are perhaps getting a mixture of snow, sleet, and rain. Once again greater Houston will miss most if not all of the snow and ice.
One of my favorite singers, song writers, guitarists is James Taylor. One of his early hit songs, Fire and Rain captures my mood on this cold raining morning. It is perhaps cooler, snowier, and icier where you are this morning, I hope you are warm and cozy wherever you are and that you can enjoy the weather out the window or on TV.
I have attached my karaoke version of Fire and Rain if you care to take a listen. I was fortunate to spend several winters up north working during the last ten years of my career as a third party welding and utility inspector. I saw lots of snow and ice with temperatures often as low as minus 26 degrees F. I recall slipping on the ice and falling pretty hard. All the heavy and thick work clothing not only kept me warm but cushioned my fall.
I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain, my share of snow and ice as well, and as the song says, there have been lonely times when I could not find a friend, but I always thought that I’d see you again.

Your friend and fellow traveler,
David James White
