Time In A Bottle

Being retired for over five years now, I find that I have a lot more time on my hands and more opportunities to develop ideas for this daily blog. And yet it is still the actual focusing for a few minutes each morning that produces something to publish. Writing is a tedious process where the rewriting, correcting and polishing are the biggest and most time consuming parts of the process or as I believe it was Thomas Edison who said, “Genius (or invention) is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.”

One of the phrases that I repeat daily as my mantra and affirmation is: “Whatsoever my hands find to do this day, I will do with my whole heart finding purpose in the most menial and repetitive of tasks.” I have set myself this daily task of trying to write something entertaining, enlightening, and encouraging. How well I accomplish that on any given day is for my readers to decide.

The poet has said, “Give me a ship and a star to steer her by.” As a writer I paraphrase that prayer and ask my muse give me an idea with the patience persistence to develop it into something readable.

I have come to think of these daily blogs as love notes tucked into bottles and tossed into the sea where it is the hope of this author and shipwrecked sailor that whoever finds and reads them will find something worth their while.
