Texas Used To Be Even Bigger

When Texas was a Republic for nine years before becoming a new state in the growing United States of America, it stretched all the way up to Wyoming and included parts of Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. They say, “Everything is bigger in Texas.”

One of my boyhood heroes, Davy Crockett, when the people in East Tennessee that he represented in the U.S. Congress failed to re-elect him for an additional term in office is said to have remarked, “Y’all can go to hell, I’m going to Texas.”

I like to quote another of my favorite sayings about Texas, “I was not born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could.”

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David James White

Proud to have been born, like Davy, in Tennessee, but also proud to consider myself a Texan.
