The Rhythm and Balance of Life
I am reminded of the introduction to an old jazz song that was reintroduced as a rock ‘n roll song when I was a teenager. The opening words go: “In this fast and troubled world we sometimes lose our way, but I am never lost, I feel this way because I’ve got rhythm, I’ve got music, I’ve got my girl who could ask for anything more.”
Often we feel lost because our timing is off, we have lost the beat, and the dance seems to go on without us. I suppose that is the reason that for many people meditation or a walk in the woods is healing and restorative because they both center us and help us to reset our rhythm and balance.
Just like when a tire gets out of balance, life can be a bumpy ride when we are off balance. And the lyric, the melody, and the step of the dance of life become confusing and chaotic without balance and rhythm. The boy always stands a better chance of getting the girl, or the girl the guy, if they’ve got rhythm. I dare say that if one maintains their rhythm and balance that they can sing and dance even without a partner quite happily.
Enjoy the dance.
