The Creative Urge

The creative urge expresses itself in countless ways. We often marvel at the great accomplishments of others in literature, the arts, engineering, and so many other fields of endeavor, yet there is in everyone of us the likeness of our Creator, this drive and ability to create.

Thoughts indeed become things and if we can imagine it we can manifest it in our lives. The thoughts we dwell upon and invest emotion and some small motion (baby steps) into materialize. I believe that focused thinking more than hard work is the secret to making our highest and best dreams come true.

My friend Mike Dooley’s mantra “Thoughts become things. choose the good ones” Is both a prescription for happily ever after and a cautionary tale. Dark thoughts if focused upon, emotionally invested in, and acted upon do also come true.

The negative Nellies’ nightmares and the positive Polly Anna’s sweet dreams both come true. There was a woman who went to her doctor every year for thirty years convinced that she had cancer only to hear him say after examining her and running tests that she was cancer free. Upon her thirty-first annual physical exam she got the report that she had long predicted. The doctor diagnosed her with cancer and she said, “I told you so.”

We are cautioned against “blaming the victim,” and told that “bad things happen to everyone.” And there is perhaps some truth in both of those opinions and yet I think that seeing ourselves as victims of cruel fate is not who we truly are, but rather we are the authors, the creators of these lives that we manifest in this time space construct we call reality.

If we want our highest and best dreams, our biggest and brightest wishes to come true, those are the ones we should focus upon, invest our emotions into, and take whatever “baby steps” we can toward, trusting in our higher best self to cause all things to work together for our good.
