Reconnecting With Long Lost Friends
Fifty-one years ago while attending college with students from all over the country and the world, I met a girl named Peggy from Ohio. One of my first sweethearts in elementary school back in Tennessee was named Peggy and even though she ripped the pocket off my favorite shirt she was still dear to the heart that beat beneath that torn pocket. Buddy Holly sang about his Peggy Sue and I too from a boy have had a fondest for Peggy(s).
This year I decided to get back on Facebook after being off it for nine years. I confess that one of my primary motivations was so that I could see pictures my granddaughter posted by her mother and other granny there.
Happily I have also been able to reconnect with several long lost friends. Peggy from college is one of them and today is her birthday. “Happy birthday, Peggy, I hope it is a great one.” That is what I posted on Facebook to her and I share it here with all my worldwide friends as well.
There are many things about Social Media that I do not particularly care for, primarily that too many seem substitute notes and emogees for real conversation and connection. That being said it is still thrilling to reconnect with friends that we have not seen or heard from in years. What we do with those connections is really up to us.
Today, I wanted to spend a few minutes reminding Peggy how special the memories of the moments that we shared together in college have been to me all these years. And to remind her how very much her friendship meant to me then and still does.
