Habits and Preferences

I recently made yet another attempt at becoming a coffee drinker. For over a month I had a cup of coffee each morning concluding as I have on several other occasions that coffee just is not my cup of tea. Even tea I prefer iced and sweet.

Many of my friends and family including my beloved wife are coffee drinkers. Much as I have long enjoyed “coffee kisses” the taste of the drink itself has never been and probably never will be one of my favorites.

I have in the last year developed another habit though and that is visiting some property in Bon Wier, Texas where I now own a little over thirty-six acres. Up till last August I drove there almost every week to spend a few hours in the woods, clearing trails and a campsite where I intended to park an RV Camper. Since August with the camper in place my wife and I have been spending a couple of days and nights there each week.

Last week we spent from Tuesday through Sunday there. It has become our home away from home. And on this the first Thursday that we have not spent in the wild East Texas Piney Woods I can honestly say I am suffering a bit from withdrawal symptoms.

We decided with this Saturday my birthday and next Thursday Thanksgiving that we would take a couple of weeks off from visiting our Bon Wier property. A couple of weeks without a cup of coffee and I have had no desire for it, but the thought of not being out in those wonderful woods for yet another week makes me feel a bit out of place.

In my mind I already feel more at home there than I do in Houston. Like the Green Acres theme song I long to sing, “Good-bye, City Life, Green Acres we are there.” Some sweet day and not just camping but enjoying our homestead, our small horse ranch, will be a dream come true.
