A Long, Long Time

Looking back on this almost seventy-five year adventure in time and space it seems at the same time a brief and a long, long time. I am so glad and grateful that everything that I could ever want or need has always been mine, coming to me at just the right time and in just the right way from my loving and infinite source.

Many not just oldsters, but youngsters too, fall victim to a particular error in thinking that because they cannot have a particular thing or person that they want that they have been cheated and short changed by life. The truth is that one of the great secrets to manifesting everything thing you want in life is to not attach a particular face, time stamp, or place to it, instead allowing the Universe room and space to make things even better than we think or hope.

The story is told of a man caught in a flood who climbed up on his roof to stay above the flood waters. He prayed to his higher power to be rescued. First came a helicopter, dropping a rope ladder, he refused saying God would save him. Then came men in a row boat offering him a ride to safety and he again waved them off saying God would save him. Thirdly the police came in an airboat, saying that he must evacuate before the waters rose higher. He refused trusting God would save him. The waters rose higher and swept the house away drowning the man. In heaven he questioned why God had not answered his prayer. God said I tried three times. I sent the helicopter, the men in the row boat, and lastly the police in the air boat, yet you refused to be rescued.

We are so often like the silly man in the story. We have our minds so set on the specifics of how our prayers, wishes, and dreams are to come true that we allow no wiggle room for the Universe to provide even bigger and better answers, often failing to recognize them and refusing them when they appear.

Today’s song is a beautiful but sad tale of a young woman lamenting about “a love that never was.” She sings, “I’ve done everything I know to try and make you mine. I think I’m gonna love you for a long, long time.” Many a man would jump at the chance to have a relationship with such a lovely and loving woman, yet she is hung up on a particular face, a person, a time and a place, choosing to mourn a love that never was, rather than accept a different even better version of happily ever after.
