Chattanooga, That’s My Hometown
Yesterday, I saw this scenic view of Chattanooga taken from atop Lookout Mountain from the Civil War National Park called Point Park. I was born and grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and though I have lived the greater part of my almost seventy-five years in Houston, Tennessee I still consider Chattanooga my hometown.
As I thought of writing a blog today about my hometown, a song that came out about 1960 came to mind and I tried in vain to find a link to it, but could not. I did find an article where someone else was trying to recall all the lyrics to the song that helped a lot of us Chattanooga kids then learn to spell Chattanooga and Tennessee correctly:

(Poet that I am, I think the middle line attempted is probably more like: “We have agriculture, mountains, lakes and land. And the 1960’s will see us expand.”)
It has been over ten years since I last visited my hometown. Most of my family and many of my friends and classmates have gone on or moved away.
In my search for the song that I hoped to link in this blog I did come across another song about Chattanooga called Chattanooga, That’s My Hometown. I share this rare treasure with you.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David James White
