My Moon Pie
I got my wish upon a star this morning – another moon and star gazing with my wife, my Moon Pie. There was another bright smiley moon this morning just like the one on the Moon Pie box. In the CBS hit series Sheldon, Sheldon’s Mee Maw played by the lovely Annie Potts calls her grandson Moon Pie as a term of endearment. Who doesn’t love a Moon Pie? I have loved them all my life.
I have a little in common with Moon Pies for we both come from the same home town, Chattanooga, Tennessee. The great southern sandwich cookie treat that tastes a lot like s’mores (the campfire treat made by roasting marshmallows and putting them and a chocolate bar between two graham crackers) is produced by the Chattanooga Bakery and has been since 1917, that is ten years before a Girl Scout leader published her recipe for s’mores in 1927. Moon pies were around forty-three years before I arrived to eat my share. It is a truism among folks my age that there is not much better than a Moon Pie and an RC Cola. Go easy on us all you Coke and Pepsi fans.

Today there are also double and triple deckers coated in chocolate and other flavors. You can even get Moon Pie Minis in all six flavors so you can figure out which is your favorite. Mine is still the single decker chocolate. Just as I am a one woman man (at a time at least – that is a joke my wife does not appreciate) I am a one Moon Pie man. My Linda Lee is my Moon Pie.
