Balance

According to Forest Gump and his mom, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” Though there is some amount of randomness and uncertainty in life it is equally true that there are some things that we can count on and be sure of. And one of those things is that when we lose our balance that we are headed for an accident or a fall.

Little children especially when they are just learning to walk fall many times before they figure out how to balance themselves. The same is true of learning to ride a bike. Today’s picture quote is, I think, spot on: “Life is like riding a bicycle, to stay balanced you must keep moving.”

Many older people develop a fear of falling and gradually start losing their balance end up even more prone to falls. Time was when an elder’s fall meant a broken hip and a rehabilitation center from which few ever returned home. Head injuries from falls have shorten many a senior’s life. Spending too much time sitting is a sure way to lose our balance. It is important for all of us , especially seniors, to keep moving.

Never allow anyone or anything to break your stride. Just keep on moving and you will stay balanced.
