“If It Sounds Too Good To Be True…”
I just saw another fanciful ad on Facebook for an incredible magnet than can pick up non-magnetic coins. That famous quote came to mind, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”
What is it about us as a nation, as a world, as people, that we are so gullible and such easy marks for con men and women who only want to make merchandise of us, to take all our hard-earned coins to enrich themselves and their super wealthy friends?
A dear friend from high school that I recently reconnected with on Facebook said that she hoped that I would not be offended by her political posts. People can believe and post whatever they choose. I am not going to unfriend anyone for exercising their First Amendment rights to freedom of religious expression or freedom of speech. But there are or I think, or should be some guard rails in place, you know like common sense, like not being free to yell “Fire” in a crowded theater or arena when there is no fire or not supporting religions that teach that violence against others is okay.
I also happen to believe that the “free press” that the First Amendment guarantees has a duty to call out lies political, religious, and in advertising:

When we see or hear someone spreading lies or making incredible claims we all have a responsibility to call them out. We as a people have now elected twice an individual for President who is infamous for playing fast and loose with the truth, who lies faster than the fact checkers can keep and yet people like my dear friend still believe that the sun rises and sets in him.
All I can say about that is that, “I’ve got some ocean front property in Arizona, from my front porch you can see the sea, I’ve got some ocean front property in Arizona. If you’ll buy that I’ll throw the Golden Gate in free.” Sound incredible? It is! A synonym for incredible is unbelievable.
