Emoji, Not Even My 2nd Language

I am a word guy and emoji is not even a second language for me as I understand French, Latin, and Spanish better than I do emoji. Since I have been on Facebook again most of the reactions that I have received to posts have come in the form of emoji. One that has been particularly baffling to me is in the big one in today’s picture, the Care emoji. In the smaller version I could not make out the yellow arms holding a heart and so I really had no idea what it was supposed to mean.

At first I was going to write a blog asking what that symbol means, but then I remembered that my iPhone is a computer and that I could just look up the answer myself. I did not even have to use God’s Telephone Number (Jeremiah 33:3.) One of my Christian friends posted the Sad emoji on my blog posting yesterday. I assume my statement that I am neither a Christian nor an atheist, but somewhere in between made him sad.

Many Christians believe, at least the ones that I grew up with do, that if you have an opinion or belief different from theirs that you are going to burn forever in a lake of fire after this life is over. If they really believed that they would be a lot kinder to those who hold different opinions and beliefs from theirs and would, I think, work a lot harder to convince people to give their hearts to Jesus and “be saved.” But, can then Christians are very divided on the details of their religion and a large portion of them, the Calvinists, believe that God has already chosen a few to be “saved” and that the rest are “lost” without hope or even ca prayer.

I just have little patience or tolerance with all that nonsense anymore. Of course, you can believe whatever you want, but count me out of all that guilt and condemnation crap. I am just not going to waste my time with any religion that does not teach that God loves everybody and that we should as well.

The biggest problem that I have with religions is that without exceptions they all claim to be God’s chosen people and treat everyone else as “less than” or “other” and that to me is a pile of you know what. I have actually seen an emoji for that one. I prefer the Smiley Face emoji yet better still to just “use my word” my favorite three being, “I love you.”

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David James White
