Got Any Questions?
Sometimes as I am reaching into my “bag of tricks” hoping to pull out something worthwhile to share, I wonder will this well of inspiration ever run dry. Yesterday, I had a little conversation with my wife that we have replayed often over the years:
(She) I don’t know the answer.
(Me) I don’t even know all the questions.
(She) You think you know everything.
(Me) I don’t know everything, but I know Who does.
(She) And who is that?
(Me) My higher Self!
The Apostle Paul in one of his many rambling sometimes almost incoherent letters wrote: “Someday we shall know even as we are known.” I say, “Why someday, why not today?” Religion to me is the great “click bait” or “bait and switch” promising paradise, promising answers but later, not right now. Once during a sort of dual press conference Jesus was asked by the Pharisees who believed in heaven and the Sadducees who did not, just what his position was on the subject of heaven.
Jesus did not dodge the question like a lawyer, a politician, or a preacher might, but stated his position on heaven quite clearly. Neither group was satisfied with his answer as both had been hoping that he would either support their position or give them some opportunity to find fault with him. Jesus said, “The kingdom of heaven is within you.”
The One Who knows all, the God who is “all in all” dwells in you and me. Therefore, though we may not ourselves know everything, we know Who does and that One is more ready to answer than we are to ask and not someday in the sweet by and by, but right now in the nasty now and now.
In Bible College in a course called Old Testament Survey I learned “God’s telephone number.” Would you like to know it? It is Jeremiah 33.3:
“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
