“Thoughts Become Things”
Today title is the first part of a catch phrase that my friend Mike Dooley, author of Notes from the Universe, often uses. What we think about, especially those thoughts that we dwell on and invest in, becomes the reality of our lives. If that sounds like “magical thinking” to you I suppose it is.
We are all magicians, creators, in that regard. Roman Catholics believe that when the priest prays over the wine and wafer that it literally becomes the blood and body of Jesus who purportedly said, “Take and eat this is my body.” In Latin the prayer begins, “Hoc est poc est” quite literally “This is my body.” The stage magician’s magic word is “Hocus-pocus.”
The Bible tells us that the Great Creator spoke all there is into being. Words are pictures that describe our thoughts. Think about it, everything around us, before it ever materialized was a thought and then a word. A few words in the middle of my daily mantra are, “May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in my sight, O Lord, my strength, my rock, and my redeemer.”
My friend Mike Dooley usually follows his words “Thoughts become things” with “Choose the good ones” which indicates that we should chose to dwell on our good thoughts, our happy thoughts, in order to bring our highest and best into being and not our lowest and worst.
Parents of young children just learning to talk often use the phrase, “Use your words.” I would add to children of all ages “Choose your words and your thoughts wisely for you are creating the world around you.”
