Everything

My taste in music has widened over the years from the small boy who climbed up on a kitchen chair to sing How Far Is Heaven with Kitty Wells on the radio, and the little boy who saw Elvis live on the Ed Sullivan Show in the mid-nineteen-fifties and later the Beatles on that same venue. Even my dad whose music taste was almost exclusively country/western taught me my first Frank Sinatra song, Young at Heart, as he sang it in his pickup truck and I, at the time a wee boy, rode shotgun next to him.

Some years ago when I first heard Michael Buble (pronounced Boob Lay – how could a guy not appreciate a singer with a last name like that?) sing today’s song I thought he sounded very much like a young Sinatra and I loved the song immediately.

I am so glad that we do not have to have only one favorite genre of music, but we can if we are open, enjoy everything. To me the greatest talents in music are those like Paul Simon who explore many types and styles of music.

We live in a day and age where sadly too many are divided into this camp or that as our Puppet Masters would have us so they can more easily pull our strings and control us. Scarcity and exclusivity are two of these salesmen/con men’s favorite tools. They say, “We cannot have it all”, “We cannot have our Kate and Edith too.” But there is another quieter perhaps but more truthful voice that says, “Everything is ours to enjoy, we can indeed have it all.” And really why would anyone even want cake if they could not eat it.

There are so many songs to sing, to listen to, and to dance to. Today’s song reminds us that we can and should see everything in the one we love.
