All I Ask Of You
The inspiration for today’s blog comes from one of the most beautiful love songs that I ever heard. This song, along with Endless Love, and Suddenly Seymour, from The Little Shop of Horrors, are three of the most thrilling and uplifting duets to me.
Did you ever notice how so many great love stories take place in tragic circumstances? Perhaps that is because crisis often brings out the very best in us. And I believe the very best we have to offer is love.
I am reminded of a line from the New Testament that goes: “Owe no man anything but to love one another.” Over the years I have taken to answering when anyone asks me, “What do I owe you?”, “You don’t owe me anything, but to love me.”
Today’s inspiring song, “All I Ask Of You” speaks to what most, if not all, of us are looking for and what we all have to give. In Paul McCartney’s Wing’s song that is mostly instrumental with few lyrics, the song concludes with an important lesson, “And in the end, the love we take is equal to the love we make.” Or in other words what we get is what we give.
They who ask for love must first give it. It is like priming the pump. Wise little red-headed Michael, not quite five at the time, upon hearing his grandma say that she had difficulty making friends said, “Mommie, making friends is easy, all you have to do is act friendly.” Out of the mouths of babes comes wisdom.
