Courage To Change The Things I Can
In the middle between Serenity and Wisdom is where we find the Courage to change the things we can. In one of my favorite movies Forest Gump the heroine Jenny finds herself trapped in a life of addiction, drugs, and allowing men to use her as her daddy did when she was a girl. The song playing in the background echoes her resignation to her sad state of affairs, “Lord knows I can’t change.” Jenny climbs up on the balcony rail of the high rise apartment she finds herself in thinking to fly away from all her problems. Much as one might pray, “Please, God, make me a bird so I can fly far far away.” It appears God prefers us to face our problems and find the courage within to change the things we can.
Often crisis is the catalyst that reveal our true nature and helps us to recall Who and Whose we truly are. Attached is a link to a Dionne Warwick song that I love to sing along with her. I especially like the last lines of the chorus where she sings, “Follow me like you used to do. I can still show you who and whose you are.”
