Class Reunions

It has been ten years since I last visited my hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Except for a couple of years that I lived with my parents after my active duty two years and nine months in the United States Army and another three years that I returned to the city after attending college, I have spent most of my almost seventy-five years in Houston, Texas. I have only attended two of my class reunions, the twenty-fifth Chattanooga Central High School Class of 1968 in 1993 and the fortieth reunion of the ninth grade class of East Lake Junior High School in 2005.

Yesterday on Facebook, one of my former Central High classmates posted a couple of pictures of two of the class reunions that I missed, the tenth and the fifty-seventh (that recently took place.) Over the years the turn out has diminished and many of our classmates are no longer with us.

I am going to try to make it for the sixtieth reunion if there are enough of us left to even have one. I enjoyed looking over the faces in the two pictures and remembering walking the hallowed halls of the old Central High School building on Dodds Avenue. My class, the Class of 1968, was the next to last class to graduate from there. My brother Robert’s class, the Class of 1970, was only the second graduating class at the new Central High School was relocated to Harrison, Tennessee in 1969, still in Hamilton County. Central always was a county high school even all those years it was located within the Chattanooga city limits.

All the best to my surviving classmates.
