See Rock City

My boyhood hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee has then and still has many attractions that draw tourists from around the country and the world. Several of those attractions are atop nearby Lookout Mountain. In this Civil War area, 1860 – 1861, picture you can see Lookout Mountain looming in the background over a bridge across the Tennessee River at Chattanooga.

Some seventy years ago as a five year old boy I saw Rock City for the first time and was utterly amazed. I have revisited that place several times over the years and been thrilled every time. It has been ten years since I last saw my hometown and I hope to see it again someday and of course See Rock City.

I have seen See Rock City signs all around the country and even when I was in Vietnam in 1970 one of the soldiers from Tennessee had a classic See Rock City birdhouse sent to him. He displayed it proudly throughout his tour in ‘Nam.

If you are ever in the neighborhood of Chattanooga be sure to see Rock City.
