Never Enough

I have really come to look forward to my Tuesday day trips from Houston to Bon Wier. Last week I got to make the drive almost three hour drive here with my son and have him all to myself for the ride here and back and walking our property together. Those are precious times indeed. I can never get enough.

I feel the same way about the precious moments that I get to spend with my granddaughter. When Emma calls me Papa and reaches out for me to hold her my heart melts. I am indeed a lucky man. On August 5th Emma turns two and five days later my lovely and loving wife Linda Lee and I will celebrate our thirty-sixth wedding anniversary, a feat that I must admit she is more responsible for than I am for as my mother predicted when she first met Linda and said to me when we were alone, “David that woman is never going to let you go.” I am so glad and grateful that she never did.

It is becoming increasingly more likely that it is I that will have to let her go someday and not the other way around. Short or long time remaining to us, for me it will never be enough. As I said, I consider myself a lucky man with so very much to be glad and grateful for. As I walk through this almost hundred acre wood today I am amazed that it has only been about a year since my son first brought me to his sixty acre parcel just south on the thirty-one acres that are in my name. I have made an offer on another approximately 3.9 acres just north of mine. My son Jay told me when he first showed me his property last July that he wanted to have a hundred acres here. I asked him if I could live on it in an RV Camper trailer someday and he said, “Sure, Dad.”

I said, that I would try to help him realize his dream of owning a hundred acre wood, like the one Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin, and gang roamed in the Pooh stories. Last November I purchased 15.5 acres adjoining his sixty acres and in March this year added another 15.5 acres to our Bon Wier property. Hopefully we will have the sell completed on the smaller tract of land by year’s end. Jay is already talking about helping me bring my holds to fifty acres with the additional purchase of some pasture land just north of the 3.9 acres we hope to have a signed sales agreement on in a couple of weeks.

I also hope before the summer is out to have a twenty foot RV Camper trailer parked on my current acreage located at 1000 FM 1416, Bon Wier, Texas. And then to talk Linda Lee, who loved walking in the woods of her daddy’s farm when she was a girl, into coming with me here on my weekly adventures and maybe even spending some weekends here as well. You see I am hoping that she too will fall in love with this place like me till she feels like she can never get enough.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David James White
