Time To Think
One of the marvels of being more mature is that time seems to fly by. Months seem to pass like days and seasons come and go in a dizzying display of color and light. It seems like only yesterday that we were saying goodbye to May and tomorrow will be July.
One of my favorite stories of lessons learned is that when I was around eighteen years old I went for a haircut to a barber who had cut my hair since I was ten. He ask me as I sat in the barber chair while he cut my hair, “How old are you now, Son?” After I answered, “Eighteen” he followed up with, “Well, the years are really going to start clicking off for you now.”
As the saying goes, “Truer words were never spoken.” The larger the number of my birthdays grows the faster time seems to fly by. When I was a young man I recall hearing the song that I have attached a link to below, Turn Around. It touched my heart with melancholy even then and still does.
Since that time I have watched my beloved daughter grow up into a young woman and my son into a young man. Sadly Emily passed at thirty-two years of age. Still on a happier note a little over eleven years later my then thirty-three year old son Jonathan (Jay) and his lovely wife Lauren made me a Poppa with the birth of a precious little girl named Emma Grace on August 5th 2023.
I am keeping a close eye on her for I know she too will turn around and be two, turn around and be four, turn around and be a young girl going out of the door. We often hardly have time to think time passes so fast.
