Love At First Sight

Do you believe in Love at First Sight? Well I do. On the little shelf next to my bed I have a framed picture of the lovely and loving Linda Lee Stokes much as she looked to me in January of 1988 when we met again after briefly meeting in college fifteen years before. She still looks the same to me that is because I fell in love with her then and still love her today.

I believe that “falling in love” is catching a glimpse of our higher best self in another. Jack Nicholson in the movie As Good As It Gets after insulting a woman at the dinner table is told by her that unless he pays her a genuine compliment that she is going to leave. He thinks for a long moment and says, “You make me want to be a better man.” That is just what she needed to hear.

In Linda Lee Stokes, my wife of almost thirty-six years I caught that marvelous glimpse of the highest and best that I could ever be and I will forever love her for that. I have loved a lot of people and if I live past a hundred, as I hope, I expect to love a lot more people. Nevertheless, I can say sincerely that Linda Lee is The Love of my life.
