“Choose The Good Ones”

My friend Mike Dooley, author of Notes from the Universe, closes each encouraging email with his catch phrase, “Thoughts become things, choose the good ones.” It is MIke’s and my own belief as well that we design and manifest this construct that we call reality by our thoughts words and actions.

Yet, first and most powerful are our thoughts. Words are but symbols with which we communicate our thoughts and together with our actions (baby steps) we show the Universe want we really want to come to us. Thoughts are our manifest destiny. What comes to us is what we think about, dwell upon, talk about, and invest our emotions and actions into.

I am reminded of a line that I used to hear a lot when I was trying to be a Christian during the first half of this particular adventure in time and space. It went something like this, “Pray like everything depends upon God (the Universe) but act like it all depends upon you.”

Early into this second act when I was searching to fill the void in my thinking after discarding many of the thoughts and beliefs that I had held as a child, young adult, and even into middle age, a thought came to me, out of the blue, in these words that have become the center piece of my ever growing and evolving daily mantra:

“I am so glad and grateful that everything that I could ever want or need is already mine and coming to me at just the right time and in just the right way from my loving and infinite source.”

Over the years I have often quoted the wisdom of a Pogo comic strip that I first saw many years ago:

A hauntingly beautiful phrase from a nineteen seventies contemporary Christian song comes to mind as well. It goes, “Till you find Him in the mirror, you’ve got a long way to go.” The loving and infinite source of all of our thoughts, words, and actions is one and the same. He is us, our higher self.

I believe that life is what we make it. I also believe that life is meant to be good. In closing if the thoughts that we chooses to dwell upon do indeed become things it is important that we remember to check our thoughts and to choose the good ones.
