Sunshine and Rain
One of the recurring themes at The Encouraging Word is regarding Our Western Culture’s bent toward Dualism or the notion that we must choose one option over the other, examples being right over wrong, day over night, light over dark, white over black, sunshine over rain. I personally prefer the life philosophy that sees both as a better option than either/or. In the educational, entertaining, and encouraging song “What A Wonderful World this Oneness outlook on life is expressed by the phrase, “the bright blessed day and the dark sacred night.”
Sunshine is not superior to rain for they are in reality co-equal and both necessary to make this indeed a wonderful world not just black and white but rainbow-colored. I like the symbolism of the ying yang symbol that in the light half there is a spot of dark and in the dark part there is a spot of light. Darkness and light are co-equals and not in opposition to one another, but complementary to one another.
Our particular prejudice for or against one or the other of these usually if not always false choices is the source of a great deal of the divide, the trouble, and turmoil in the world that keeps it from being the wonderful world it is mean to be for each and all and not just those who wrongly think themselves, their tastes, opinions and station better than all the rest. They much prefer the song lyrics to the song All For The Best to those of What A Wonderful World. Find links to both songs below.
