Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer

Though it is not officially summer yet for several days, it already feels like it in the part of the world that I call home, southeast Texas. With temperatures already pushing the one hundred mark and sunny skies so bright that “you gotta wear shades”, yesterday we received the first really high summer electric bill. Only twice in my life have I lived even briefly where Air Conditioning was not required in the summer and that was not in Texas, but in Scotland and Alaska.

Unlike a lot of folks, summer is not my favorite season. I prefer the cooler months and yet I recognize that summer does have its things to offer. Nat King Cole in his hit song Those Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer names but a few of those summertime treats.

My life philosophy that I got from Muppet bandleader Doctor Tooth who says, “There’s a party all the time for them that choose.”Summer minded folk might phrase that a little differently, “There’s a picnic all the time for them that choose.”
