“My grandbaby and my fur baby!”

My granddaughter’s other grandma, Judy, posted the above picture on Facebook with the caption that is quoted above. Children have a wonderful affinity and attachment to animals. I believe that a big part of the reason for that is that they are both in the same boat and live in a world separate from adults. They live in the moment and are mostly told what to do to like prisoners and pets by adults. Today’s song says, “Bless the beasts and the children, for in this world they have no voice, they have no choice.”

And yet both children and animals find their freedom to express their nature best in and with each other. The big fur baby in the picture that Emma is using for a comfy pillow is Grandma Judy’s dog and Emma spends a lot of time at grandma’s house so they are best friends. Emma’s dog at her home is named Penny and Emma delights in her as Penny does in her little sister. One of the first words that Emma learned to say clearly was Penny.

I am so glad and grateful that Emma has these two wonderful animal friends. Emma also has a kitty but the wise kitty stays clear of the little toddler and pretty much everyone. This begs the question, “Does anyone really have or own a kitty or does not the kitty really have and own them?” A line from a Tom Jones song comes to mind, “What’s new, Pussy Cat? Woe, woe, woe…”

Dogs and children both love to be petted. Don’t we all?
