Every Hour on the Hour
The inspiration for these daily blogs comes in many forms from many places. The seed thought for today’s piece came when my lovely and loving wife of almost thirty-six years, Linda Lee, asked me about a clock that we have hanging in our den that chimes Christmas melodies. She asked, “How often does it chime?” I replied, “Every hour on the hour.” Then she said, “That would make a good subject for a blog.”
The chiming feature requires two additional double A batteries and we had not heard the clock chime for quite sometime. The battery that makes the hands move died last week and when I replaced it I also put two additional batteries in to see if the chiming feature still works. It does and so now every hour on the hour it softly chimes out one of twelve different Christmas carols.
In December of 2023 we bought a new artificial Christmas tree with lights and kept it up for a whole year finally taking it down and putting it and the ornaments away in early January of this year. Elvis in one of his classic Christmas songs asks, Why Can’t Every Day Be Like Christmas?” Well, Linda and I believe it can and even though we are giving the Christmas tree a rest we now have a reminder “Every hour on the hour” that every minute, every hour, every day is “the season to be jolly, fa la la la la la la la la.”
Looking for a song to link to today’s blog, I found a Duke Ellington 1945 original song that I had never heard before. It is well worth a listen as I hope this blog is worth a read.
